Engine not starting 200 1983

I have an 244 gl, we did an over haul on it and when we were running it the exhaust manifold was over heating becoming an red cherry color. We flushed the cooling system. The next day we went to start it and it does not start. There seems to have gas getting to the injectors because theres is a smell of fuel. When you start the engine it cranks but does not start i asjusted the idle screw more in and it did better but did not start. What copuld be the problem. thanks

Air Mass Meter failure, probably.

Try to start the engine with AMM disconnected. If it runs, then you may try another AMM. Try a used one from junk yard. New AMMs are not returnable and expensive. When you are sure that's the problem, then get a better one if the junk yard part is not fully operational.
AMM is a cylindrical part about 2 1/2 inch Dia by 6 inches long located between air filter compartment and throtle air duct.
Look-up under "fuel and emission system troubleshooting" in this forum for more info on how to adjust/check AMMs.

Just a note about my previous reply on this subject: The forum subject I was referring to is for 85 240 type volvo, which does not have the exact same fuel system as the 83 240.
