Wet Driver Rear Carpet After Rains????? 200

After a strong rain, the driver side rear carpet is wet. No other carpet area has any discernable moisture. Any experience/ideas with this problem????

Sedan or Wagon?

My wagon has a leaky window gasket on the rear hatch, in fact I can push the glass out about 3/4 inch with my thumb. As luck would have it the leak is right in the center and the water lands in the plastic lift handle for the third seat, no wet carpet. I knew that seat had to be useful for something.

I was having a similar problem with wet carpets in my 89. I removed the drivers side set and carpet from both the front and rear, with this done you should see some white plugs, remove those and check to see that that drain holes are not clogged. I used some silicone to seal up the white plugs and the seat belt attachment bucket. That solved my problem. If you want more info check out the FAQ. I hope this helps, best of luck.

As suggested it could be leaking in from the rocker panel area. To check it's that and not a door/window, point a garden hose into the grill just below the windshield. The water goes down past the inside air intake flaps and along the rockers to the back wheels. If it doesn't find a way out it rusts out the rockers from the inside. Worst case : the floor-rocker seam is rusted out.

The venting before the wind shield drains into the rockers.... clear the drains well....

If you have a rusty floor there is a good chance the inner rocker walls are breeched... rusted away... and not so easy to fix either. Don't ask how I know..

One way to tell if this area is rusted out is to feel the hand brake area at speed.... If you can feel a breeze there one or both inner rocker walls are bad... Air then from out side is getting inside, which you can not control.

Another way via the already mentioned plastic plugs is to use a light and mirror and look at the area where the seats are mounted but inside the rockers.

If it is bad in there... if you can't fix it your self then it will cost ya...

Right now mine ate both breeched and I am thinking about how I will make this repair.

Pray with luck it is the window or door seal, as that would me much better..

My car is almost as you see it there currently and is how I know where the bloomin drains are! Mac
