I just got a 1994 96o nad wonder whether a keyless remote system from a 95-97
960 can be easily retro-fitted to my 94. I see the keyring remotes for sale
on eBay selling for $20.00 and wonder what else is needed. Does anyone have
any ideas?

go after market, fit it yourself - budget 1/2 a day to throw it in - t hen 2 days to sort it out, or 2 days to put it in properly and then your done!

I would suggest if you DIY it you fit a good alarm system that also offers remote door locking - I fitted an alarm with 2 stage vibration detection, current detection, 2 zone (internal and external) microwave (radar), keyless door operation, imobaliser and remote blue falshing LED's next to each door lock button.

Took me 2 days, but then again I did properly make a harness to fit, shrink wrapped and took out the whole of the bottom of the dash and the centre consol, all the door skins and fitted the loss of coolant sensor and wired it all into the turn signals...I am also picky about finish and having all my wiring joints soldered/shrink wrapped...

the advantage of a set up like this is it 'chirps' if someone gets within about 4 feet of the car, thus warning off the scumbag BEFORE he puts you window through...

cost was about £150 in all (circa $225)

A point of clarification: A keyless remote was a dealer installed option from the beginning of the series.. I had it installed on my 92 960 wagon. However, I think you'd be better off with an aftermarket, as previously suggested. I found the Volvo remote system to be a bit tedious to use and it's features annoying. I don't know in what year it became standard, but I generally like the OEM on my 97 V90, but I'd bet it would cost you and arm and leg to put one of those in. Go for a reputable aftermarket.

I have a 1993 960 wagon i purchased and the didnt even offer a keyless remote for mine BUT my aftermarket system works AWESOME so if you cant find a volvo system ( i saw a complete system on ebay including the reciver) use an aftermarket just be sure to have it installed by a reputable installer.

I wanted to do the same thing. Unfortunately I don't think the 94 960 was equiped with the necesary receiver for the remote. Only the 850 used a keyless remote that year. I'm planning to unstall an aftermarket system eventually. If I'm wrong somebody please let me know. I want keyless for for my car too
