Power steering fluid cooler 900

I'm tired of that annoying vibration/rattling in the steering when making tight turns at low rpm that plagues the early 960s. There was a lot of discussion on the board a year ago indicating that this was caused by a design flaw in the power steering fluid cooler behind the wind-dam. Volvo has a retrofit kit that is supposed to "fix" the problem (replaces the cooler with a different shape), but it's $$$. I've decided instead to simply eliminate the cooling loop and install a small trans. cooler behind the condenser instead. Anyone see any issues with doing this?

TIA,
Lance

I'm thinking of doing the same, I think is better cooling anyways.

My only thought was the issue of over-cooling the power steering fluid...especially in cold weather. A trans cooler would be a lot more efficient (maybe too efficient) than that stupid loop and I was wondering if there would be any adverse effects. Any thoughts?

I've had a good deal of success replacing the existing fluid with Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid.
I can only replace it gradually from the pump reservoir, syphoning off the old stuff, but it does seem to be working, at least most of the time.
