transmission identification question 200 1990

im looking at getting a short throw shifter, ive found one on ebay for around 50 bucks and wondering if it will work in my car.

i have a 1990 240 DL with the 5-speed transmission, and the shifter is for the M46 transmission. just wondering how i can identify my what i have so i can make sure its gonna work if i get it.

You have an M47, close cousin to the M46. The shifters look identical to me.

The M46 has wires inside it for the overdrive switch on the top, the M47 is an ordinary 5-speed. I think you can use an M46 on an M47, if you swap over the bit of black plastic with the gear positions marked on it.
