S70/SE - Check Engine Light 2000

Dear Expert,

I have just bought this used S70/SE 2000.
And I am trying to register the car, but the car fails the smug test.
The check engine light is on.
I fill up the car with super unleaded to keep the fuel enjection clean.
The gas cap is in correctly and tight.
Any ideas on how to turn the light off so I can register the car?

Moe

This is the rear-wheel forum, filled with non-front wheel drive experts. But we know enough to send you to the dealer for a code readout, which will tell you what is wrong and where to repair. You cannot turn off the light: someone with a code reader has to do that.

Thank you steve.
At the smog check mechanic the computer showed a code 1671 which it did not explain what it is.
So the only way is to take it to the dealer?

The computer should match the code with a description (like "oxygen sensor malfunction" or something). You can ask the smog guy or take it to the dealer. Lot's of independent Volvo mechanics now have code readers too.

Do you know from where I can get a code reader?
And the book.
