78 262 worth and free 244 200 1979

Hello,
I have a 244 that has been given to me that has a 4speed tranny in great shape, new exhaust, and all new wiring under the hood, the engine is toast and has been sitting for a while semi exposed. The 262 runs but has brake problems like increased rpm when brake pedal is pushed in and slow leak of coolant under the water pump as well as valve tapping. The 262 has new paint, new leather top, and headliner and 183K. Every seat but the driver is perfect and the power windows, AC, power mirrors and heated seats all work. The guy wants next to nothing for the 262. Is the tranny in the 244 able to swap over into the 262? What about the exhaust? Would this all be worth doing?
Thank you, and sorry for the run on,
Tim

Valve tapping on a v6 often means a bad cam lobe. Early v6s have a very poor reputation.

A 262 is rare enough to be put in the 'priceless' category in my book

Can I use the booster from the 244 for the 262? What other thngs can I look for to tell if the car is worth getting.
Thanks,
Tim

What's 'next to nothing'? 200 1979

I'm not exactly sure what price range you're discussing, but I think you should be able to get a decent amount for the 262 even if it's old and there are minor brake problems. I also don't know about the tech issues between the two cars, but my impression has been that 262s are nice cars, especially if they're in good shape, as yours seems to be. At the least, don't sell it until you get some quotes from other Brickboarders.
