Volvo won't start 200 1979

Hello everyone, I have a 1979 240 with the fuel injection. My problem is, I can't get the thing to run. The car turns over but I have to keep pumping the gas to keep it running. Anyone have any ideas where to start?

    Is this a new problem that suddenly started or is the car new to you. Would it be correct to say the engine starts but will not idle?

      The car is new to me and it had been running fine for the last month or so, but when we went out to start it this last time, it coughed and then nothing. I went out a couple days later and it fired over, and kept running but only when I was pumping the gas pedal. It won't idle and runs real rough when I am pumping on the pedal.

    If it will not start at all when the tank is below half full I would suspect the in tank fuel pump, called the prepump.
