Is there a way to disconnect the ac ? 700 1985

I just noticed that the ac receiver-dryer is cold and sweating-even if I turn the ac off with the controls on the instrument panel. Does the mean that my ac unit is always on-even though the air doesn't come out that well?? As a start,
is there a way to bypass the panel controls and shut of the ac??

Groan,

If you want to disable the AC, just unplug the black electrical connector from the pressure switch on the receiver/drier. Without electricity for the clutch, I guarantee the compressor wont' run.

Thanks again John,
I thought I might have to disconnect the compressor too-I guess not! This is a repair that started wrong-and stayed wrong.(long story) Anyway, does it seem likely that the problem might be in the control levers on the dash panel-the ones that regulate the ac/heat and vents?
I was trying to figure out what the mechanic(?) had to move in order to replace the evaporator-in other words, a trail of possible misteps?

Regards,

Bob H.
