Just thinking, I never really use my Rear fog lights. Would there be any negative issues with tapping those lights into the normal brake lights?
I wonder If it would make the Bulb failure sensor get crazy. I guess it would be smart to disconnect the fog light wiring to totally isolate them from the Bulb failure sensor then just jump them to the Brake light circuits at the Tail light circuit board.

Any thoughts?

I hope you are well.

A not un-common alternative over here is to simply replace the 21W bulb with a 5W, and to keep the fog light always turned on when the main light is on. You can disconnect the bulb in the foglight switch if you feel it's distracting. This way you get a full light ramp along the lower half of the rear lights.

Not exactly what you asked for, I know...

You can combine philvo and dbrick's ideas and make the switch simpler.

Just cross connect each side with a diode to prevent current backflow at the light and there you are!

All is well here in the States, except the temperture, It's very hot and the 98% humidity is terribly uncomfortable.

If you can read this, at least you got the power back by now!

My brick didn't get any visible damages after the incident, thanks for asking - my luck was better than my wits. And I have driven it 3,000 miles since, many of which at Autobahn speed, without noticing anything wrong underneath. As you will recall, it happened as I was lowering the car, meaning all wheels were securely on. When the jack slipped off the diff, it took of as a rocket and hit the right torque bar, but with no harm done except to my pants.

You got some very clever replies to your brake light question!

Word travels fast. Yes, the lights are on here at work..too bad.

Still very spotty though. Some towns have power and some do not.

The power outtage gave me an excuse to eat all the Iced Cream in the freezer.

It was nice with the TV off and playing cards with my kids by candlelight.

Somewhere in the archives on this board I found another option, which I installed on my 88 245. It provides lovely increased illumination at the rear. The result is

a) the rear fogs illuminate as stock (that is, they light only if the dash
switch is turned "on" and the headlights are "on" as well; and

b) if the rear fogs are not actually lit (that is, if the fog light switch is turned off or if the headlights are not on, then the rear fogs operate as additional brake lights.

This requires tapping brake light current from the switched side of the brake light switch above the brake pedal, and carrying the wire to up to the fog light switch (switched side). Two diodes are required in a "Y" arrangement so that normal fog light use doesn't illuminte the stock brake lights.

I like this. After about it, I think I can do it with 1 diode.

Anode on the Switch Brake power and Cathode to the Switched Fog light switch.

Fog lights on wont feed back through the Brakes.

Brake pedal depressed, feeds all four lights.

Brake down and Fog light switch on and you just have redundant 12V to all lights.

Am I missing something?

Tony,I did that on my wagon,I just disconnected the rear fog wire and jumpered a wire from the brake light socket to the top bulb on both sides.Then I wired front fogs using the rear switch, relay and fuse.They only work when the lights are on and go out when the highbeams are on.This set-up doesen't trigger the bulb out sensor.
