clutch cable compatability question

I am having trouble ordering the correct clutch for my 1985 245 diesel wagon with m46 tranny.

I ordered what I thought was the proper cable- but it wasn't. - it had the wrong pedal-end attachment on it.
My wagon has a sort of T shaped end molded onto the cable. The one I got was au shaped end that pivoted on the end of the cable.

My first cable, lasted the first two hundred thousand miles.
When that finally broke, i foolishly replaced it with a chepo isreali cable, which snapped in a month.

I returned to the auto zone to get a new cable, but the wrong one arrived.

What is the model difference in the two cable ends.
I am confused now.

Which modle year switched over to the T-shaped lead anchor?
Should I ask for a later model year to guarentee a proper cable.

I now must buy another cheapo till i order the proper one from volvo...
any help is well received...

thanks

    clutch cable compatability question p.s.

Autozone has wasted my time over the clutch cable snafu- it was ordered yesterday am, i was told it would arrive by early pm. everytime i called to see if it had arrived I was told to call back a bit later.
Every time I called I was told the cable was on the way. turns out it was never on its way, and thay knew it. They just kept stringing me along all day, wasting my time. Then when it finally arrived today, it was the wrong cable- and they acted like it was my fault.
What a bunch of liars at auto zone
I am sure that ALL Autozone are not prevaricators, but the employees at the AUTOZONE on NORTHERN BLVD AND 153RD STREET IN QUEENS NYC seem to have no respect for a paying customer.
They lost my business, and considering I own a twenty year old volvo that needs constant upkeep, that business adds up to a lot of purchases over time. I will walk the ten extra blocks to get to STRAUSS AUTO instead.

It is amazing how a few surly, incompetant, lying employees can cost auto zone a good customer.

    sorry about the rant.

here is the kicker in all of this- AUTOZONE now tells me the soonest the cable will be here is on Wednesday. I called Strauss and they told me I could have it on Sunday within an hour.

Go figure,,, Again I need help order the right cable- the t shaped end and not the pivoting end one.... Help, my car is sitting parked, waiting for a stupid cable to make it go ...

    thanks

      clutch cable compatability question p.s.s.

I will go to Volvo and purchase the proper cable, and keep the cheapo as a spare. Had i put in a OEM cable a month ago, instead of the inferior aftermarket one, I would not be sitting here now, whining and ranting about counter people.

      My bad.

Had I followed advice found on the BrickBoard and replaced the real Volvo cable.....

Auto zone ain't all bad, they are cheap, and have lifetime parts replacement, and most of the counter people are pretty cool. But i will give Strass a try.

I recently ordered from FCP Groton, They are great. The order arrived in twentyfour hours, and all the items were correct. Dealing with the person on the phone was a breeze. AutoZone could use some pointers from these guys.

I also went to Nemet Volvo to get some official Volvo parts for my overdrive, seals and filters, and a papergasket I found the parts guys a lot of help. The biggest hassel is that you must make two trips to order- the first to order, and the second to pick up.

Well guess what- one of the gaskets was wrong. The order number on the package matched the part number in the catalog, but the wrong gasket was placed in the bag. The rest of the order was correct-so they didn't fail totally. And I am sure the parts will last longer.

The smallest of the three -FCP- seems to have the best service.... Mabey bigger isn't better...

      Thanks
