Is 1995 960 a good car? 900

I have owned a 1995 960 Wagon for appx. one and a half years. I bought it with 61,000 miles, it now has 74,000 miles. During the time I have owned the car, I have had a few problems to fix, but nothing too bad. I have read some horror stories about my particular year and model. I am debating now whether I should get rid of the car before I am faced with possible expensive repairs in the future. Does anyone have any thoughts? Has anyone had any good luck with my year and model?

My experience, and the prior owners experience, has been very positive with the 960 wagon. It is a handsomely designed car with a simple and elegant interior.I have driven the 240 series wagons for 20 years so this car is a lux mobile by contrast, requires less service, but also more expensive to repair. Upper door vinyl will need to be restretched. Handling is a little heavy for my taste. Acceleartion is great. Fuel economy is average: 15 intown, 26 on highway at 70+, At 125000 miles I had to replace the radiator and the air mass sensor (within 2 weeks). The air mass sensor failure results in sudden engine cut out that could be very dangerous. But the car runs, feels, and looks like new. My read is that the 960/v90 before 1995 is problematic so avoid these. Good luck.

The issues that I know about in addition to the ones mentioned already are the common vacuum leak in the AC/climate control system, side panels that have the coverings coming off, uncomfortable seats, front sway bar clunking when the links wear out. My car lost its timing belt...with the engine when I sold it. Timing belt didn't fail, I installed 5.0 Ford. Gets 22mpg on the freeway, runs and drives like it did before. With aluminum heads I don't think there is much difference form I6 to V8. The difference is less then 80 pounds, may be a lot less. Not much bigger then the 6 either. I have also heard of transmission problems in some. Definitely a lack of upgrade parts for the car in the suspension area. Would like bigger sway bars, bushings, good struts etc. "The 960 is Volvo's Buick" quote from a Volvo performance perveyer.

Make sure the timing belt was changed at 70K miles. If not, do it NOW!!!

There really is nothing wrong with your year '95 960. Just be sure to change the oil and filters regularly and be real sure of the timing belt changes... Do not skip the timing belt. Ever.
Good luck with your decision.

Yes it's a good car. Some would say a great car. It has identified issues, however, just like every Volvo model/year, despite what some may believe...just check this forum. Im not sure why you would get rid of car that has given you few problems because of some unknown, unanticipated problem that may or may not occur down the road.

thats really up to you, it would still be low enough mileage to trade
or sell. a '93-'95 940 or 940 turbo would likely be lower overall cost
and less expensive to maintain. ride close to a 960 and fewer electronics
to worry about. I'm sure its a fine car and may never do you wrong in a
big way BUT theres always murphys law, ect. Im happy with my simple '91
940 turbo, and '91 740 N/A "A to B" work car. PM is the way to go, these
are bulletproof. eventually want a '94-'95 940 t sedan with low miles.
