Blower Failure in Heat /AC 700 1988

The blower for the climate control system in my '88 760 Turbo Wagon has gradually failed over the past few days. It started to lose effectiveness when I accelerated or braked suggesting that the problem is somehow related to the vacuum system.
Does anyone have any advice on how to troubleshoot this problem..
TIA

Vacuum check valves. They're plastic discs mounted in vacuum hoses under the hood. Some people have gotten them to start working again by spraying inside them with WD40 or similar sprays. I say replace them, they're fairly cheap from Volvo and basically free at a junkyard.
THe blower isn't dying- the doors that open for it to blow through are closing off.
REad the 700/900 FAQ for lots more info.
