NO grease on suspension bushings.

After reading the FAQ (after the fact) about replacing front radius arm busihings, I see the caution not to use grease on rubber bushings because that will tend to degrade them.

That's contrary to some advice I have seen where the application of nickel-based anti-sieze was suggested as a remedy for squeaking sway bar-to-frame bushings.

So, I followed that advice and lubed the POLY radius arm bushings with anti-sieze. I also lubed the insides of the *rubber* sway bar-to-frame bushings with anti-sieze.

Did I do wrong?

Hey Don!
I think that may be old data. Modern elastomers (rubberlike polymers)
are a whole lot more resistant to chemicals than they were 50 years ago.
There are also some rubber lubricants that are pretty good and are guaranteed
not to harm any kind of rubber product (enforceable??).
I got a sample of one at the SAE Auto show in Detroit in early 1998, have used
it regularly but sparingly and have more than 3 1/2 oz out of a 4 oz bottle
left. It really makes things go together easily, like grommets, etc.
Silicone brake fluid is also good. So is dishwashing detergent.
Having reported all that, I have not seen a case where I could attribute
rubber destruction to my use of grease, something I have done lots of times
over the years. Misalignment and other abuse, along with long-term neglect
seem to form the bulk of the causes of rubber bushing destruction.
