Turbo swaybar question 200 1983

Just scored a 23mm frontturbo swaybar for my 83 nonturbo 245, also have the blue poly bushings from IPD. Now for the question. I have installed IPD overload springs in the rear of this wagon. Stiff ride. Is the 21 mm turbo swaybar from a sedan overkill? Should I stick to the OEM 16mm rear bar?

I think that it's very important to have a matched set of bars and springs.

The wagons have stiffer springs (reducing the need somewhat for a larger bar), but IMO you'd still want to make
sure your car will handle predictably with the setup you're thinking about. Perhaps a call into IPD is in order.

My friend's wagon has Bilsteins on all four corners, and overload springs on the rear... and it still feels like
there's a bit much body roll in it for me. However, it does bounce around quite a bit on the highway.. but when
all is said and done I think some stock turbo bars on that car would be real nice.

Turbo swaybar question 200 1983

I have a '92 245, ipd overload coils, Boge Pro-Gas all around, 23/21 sway bars. I rode with 23/16 bars for a while and I think the 21mm rear bar is a big improvement. It really helps the rear get around the corners, even during gentle driving. I've found very mild understeer but be careful with the throttle when you're close to the limit, maybe go to a safe place to experiment. I've wondered what the setup would be like with a 19mm rear bar but haven't found it in me to run that experiment yet.

Turbo swaybar question 200 1983

The nineteen will ride smoother, but you will give up what you have gained in cornering.For a non Turbo wagon you have a great set-up. Leave well enough alone.(My opionion.) For a non-turbo wagon you have an optimum set of bars and strut/shocks. In my humble opinion your experiment is a waste of time. Make sure the bushings are good and DRIVE!
