Sun Roof On A 85 244GL 200 1985

Hi, great site.

Just bought a 85 244GL for my son (his first car), 230k for $840. Replaced front rotors and pads, backs are good, installed KYB shocks on the back and replaced the radiator and hoses. Front struts will be next along with a steering rack boot. The last thing I need to fix is the leaking sun roof. I poured water down the drivers side and it flows out the tube in the door jam. The problem is on the passenger side. There is no tube on that side, it just weeps out from the area under the passenger side fender/door jam. Should it also come out on the drivers side? I've tried blowing air in the opening, but no luck.

Thanks in advance.

John

I'm trying to catch up on my reading (I know I'm very far behind) when I came across your post. The only place I would think of getting another hose from would be from a junker at the boneyard. But my main reason for responding to this post is to find out if your sunroof closes all the way. I have a 79 264GL and for a while the sunroof would have a small opening at the rear drivers side corner where the sunroof meets up with the roof. I did not have a drainage problem when water did find its way in through the opening but it sure bugged the hell out of me. I found out there is a way to adjust the rear height of the sunroof corners if this is where water is going in from. After I made the adjustment the water couldn't get in and if it did I guess that is why Volvo has a drainage system. Anyways I wont go into to much detail on the sunroof because your sunroof might not be doing this at all. But if it is let me know and I will be more than happy to give you a step-by-step on how to fix it. Good Luck!!!

Sincerely,

there should be a drain on the passenger side too. The roof has drain hoses on all four corners. Your front passenger one probably got pushed into the door pillar by mistake. Take the inner plastic cover off the pillar, and peel back the tar paper (the LH control unit will make this difficult). Hopefully the hose will be tucked in there somewhere.

Jessie
I removed the plastic kick panel on the passenger side and removed the paper. In the area below where the wires go into the rubber boot there is a rubber plug covering the hole where the drain hose should go out. Above this is a bracket with a rubber gromet in it that looks like it would be a support for the drain hose. There is no sign of the drain hose, it may have been taken out by the previous owner(s). Any ideas on what to do next?

Thats not good. I just checked mine to make sure I was not giving you bad info. The hose is clear plastic like the ones in the trunk, and it runs down the door pillar right beside the door wire harness, and behind the door switch for the overhead light. It plugs into the black gromment.
I have no idea why someone would have removed the hose, unless maybe some bodywork was done there. If it is not there you will have to run a new one. That will not be a fun task. You would have to peel back the headliner and try to feed it through the roof pillar.

Don't forget the rear drain hoses. They can be accessed from the trunk, in either corner way up next to the back of the back seat. They can cause water to well up inside and to spill out on your head when braking, as I know from experience.
