I usually stay in the 2-series room, but i'm looking at a '91 780T, the only problem is that the recline function on the driver's seat isn't working. I'm a pretty short guy, and i need that seat in the upright position (which, of course, it isn't in). Is there any way to manually adjust these? I'd have to drive it back home, then i could get it fixed. Thanks

Okey, wrong information in the other replies.

You can actually find a little hole in the plastic at the left side of the drivers seat (right side of the passengers seat) where you can insert a special tool that you can find in the trunk. See the users manual.

This will work if it's just the motor that's not working. But often that is not the problem. I have had to fix both my seats because the wire had become so short that it would only move one side of the seat backrest and then it would jam. If this is the case you must take the backrest off and shorten the wire sleeve on one side to make it work again.

So, if you can hear the motor working and the backrest moves a little bit but then will "twist" you can't fix it by using the special tool.

The special tool is a short piece of wire with a square end and a handle.

Hope you see what I mean!

I've never been able to manually adjust one. You might be able to take it all apart and manually turn the input shaft where the recline electric motor connects to the linkage...but

if it's too far back and you need it farther forward, why can't you just insert something (blanket, padding) to move yourself forward for the trip home?

BIG Disclaimer: I am a 240 guy, and what follows is info picked up on this board.

Look about for a 740 driver seat, I underestand they will fit.

Not good for back seat access, but it might do to get you home where the 780 seat can be repaired.

Good Luck,

Bob

I cannot adjust the seat manually? Even by forcing it?

I found the following in the manual for a 760. It might be the same for your machine.

Thanks, the tool was included in the tool kit and the seats appear to be the same.
