940 Brake Rotor Removal 900 1993

Hello,

I have a '93 940 with ABS and I can't get the front rotors off. I've P-blasted and whacked and the thing won't budge. I've removed the locator pin and caliper bracket. Does the bearing nut have to be removed or should I keep blasting and whacking to dislodge the rust?

Thanks,
Bob W.

I had a killer time removing my front rotors. It involved a TON of whacking the rotor and then whacking it back in and shaking it all sorts of directions. Straight out whacking it outwards won't help, you have to alternate in and out to loosen stuff up.

Thanks for your help. Had no luck getting the bugger off and had to button up. P-blasted and whacked on the front, back, everywhere and the thing wouldn't budge. I didn't see a screw on the rotor but I did see two, thick wires(?), loop near edge, inside the rotor when looking at the thin section of rotor toward the hub. They were right next to each other and I don't their purpose.

Bob

I'll try heat the next time with a propane torch. Anybody ever do this, how long does it take, and where is the best place to heat? Near the hub?

Thanks,
Bob W.

For what it's worth, One of my RWDs, I can't remember if it's the 240 or the 940, has a locator pin AND an additional screw on the rotor. Just might be worth checking. However, it's fairly obvious to notice, but I've managed to leave the screw in after I've removed the locator pin.

Once you remove the locator pin, it is friction (or corrosion!) fitted. Try spraying and waiting, then whack with a plastic mallet. Or use a torch on the hub portion to expand it (caution needed here!).
