'74 145 carb conversion 140-160

Looking for advice on converting the fuel injection to a carb w/electronic ignition....only for ease of tuning and getting this little guy running on a limited budget. It runs w/limited power but will not idle.

Keep your K-jet CIS! 140-160

I've found the Kjet to be more reliable than even carburetors, and unless you are going for full-bore performance, the CIS system (non-computerized) is more than adequate.

I just recently refitted the pressure regulator fuel line with some 3/16 air brake hose and fitted it using the boiling water softening technique.

Electronic ignition is a separate issue. I use a pertronix ignitor and Flamethrower coil and am completely satisfied with that.

I agree, if you've got K-Jet. I thought you've got D-Jet. LH-Jet (not fitted to B20) is OK. D-Jet (fitted to B20) is an open loop system just like a carburettor and needs constant tuning. K-Jet is fully mechanical, and in a Motorola technical document they state that they are still battling to get electronic FI as good as mechanical FI. K-Jet is easy to diagnose if you are confident working with a fuel pressure meter. I'm not yet.

D-jet is indeed an open loop system, but there is almost nothing to tune except fuel pressure and idle speed. Set these once, and that's it. The problem is that it is fairly complex, and 30+ year old parts are less than reliable, some being hard to find.

K-jet is very simple -- I say fix it, or have it fixed (and there are mechanics who are familiar with it), and it should go for many years with no attention. Any carb conversion using new parts will run $500 or more; it's cheaper to pay someone to work on what you have.

Why not convert it to MegaSquirt (do a search on the internet)? I think someone on this board already did it. Technically the MS is very good, and you already have the FI header! Anyway, a carb basicly just bolts on and would be easy to do. But MS will run better and requires only one tuning.
