air mass meters 200

I am about to replace my AMM (no start condition and via my multi-tester determined that it is fried). My question is, my 85' 240DL is in great shape with less than 80k on it. I don't want to spend the $250-$300 on a brand new one, but don't want the questionable reliability of a used one. What are some opinions/results out there of reconditioned or remanufactured units?? I can't decide what I should get???

Thanks for your help!

I just replace mine over the weekend, I got it from FCP Groton, the reason I buy new one because I know they're working, only 205.00 not too bad.

I picked one up at a wrecking yard...or was it ebay??? I really don't remember about $30.00 if memory serves. I have to wonder what is involved in "rebuilding" one. I know most consumer electronics "refurb" means "cleaned up real good and checked to make sure it works" If they actually get in there and replace stuff I almost think I would rather buy new for the price difference, I studyed the same dillema for a couple of weeks I am not sure I want one that has been "worked on"

If your worried about reliability get 2 good ones from the wrecking yard and throw one in the trunk, still way cheaper than a new one...and either way you should carry a spare.
that's just what I'd do.... And I understand if you don't want to act like me...

dripman:
for my 83 GL, I've always gone to the yard for AMMs and ECUs. Of course, I install 'em on the car to make sure they work. the yards are good at letting you return stuff if they don't work. the current ECU and AMM in my brick both came from donor bricks in the junkyard. no problem, so far. but just in case (and extra peace of mind), I have a couple of working spares (from the yard, of course) tucked somewhere in the garage. cost me $35 each. give the junkyards a try. good luck.

Dripman,

1. One inexpensive source for used AMM is the U Pull places $15-$25 if you have U-Pulls in your area. I got one of mine this way for $15.

2. Another source for used AMMs in the Volvo speciality recycling places that advertise in Rolling. The are $25 to $75.

3. I got a refurbished one three years ago (still going strong) from a AMM refurbishing place in California for $170 for a '84 LH 2.0 (different than yours) when the parts places in my town wanted $225 to $255. Their phone number is (925)371-6551. I don't have their name in my book -- just the entry Cheap Air Mass Meters.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Mike
