'95 960 non OEM replacement Radiator problem 900

I made the mistake of not using a OEM radiator in my '95 960. Now I'm having problems with the transmission mis-shifting on hot days in heavy traffic. On the highway and on cool days everything is fine, power flushing the radiator didn't help. Looks like I'm going to have to dish out another $350 for the right one. Has anybody else had this problem??

There is a temperature sensor at one of the oil cooler line adapters at the transmission. If you were overheating the sensor would tell the controller and it would blink the Winter mode arrow in the instrument panel and the lights in the W/S/E switches as well.

Did you get the tranmisson flushed using a good synthetic fluid? I don't think this transmission will work well using conventional fluid.

My 97 has a non-oem replacement with no problems regardless of the temp.

Are you sure they are related? The transmission is electronically controlled. Have you had the codes read? Could be a bad sensor or something.

I have a CSR radiator in our 960 with no problems. You say that you power flushed the radiator. Was it the trans cooler portion? Volvo says your trans doesn't need servicing, but it really does. I would make sure that you have clean red trans fluid and it doesn't smell burned. This trans is good a wearing out fluid quickly. If it is burned and brown in color then do the home trans flush. Easier and less messy than an oil change and will save you hundreds of dollars. Good luck.

I mis-spoke, I had the transmission power flushed. The problem still only happens when the trnsmission is hot and in stop and go traffic. I'm thinking of installing a transmission cooler instead. The PNP switch was replaced earlier this year and so far the check engine light has not come on.
