Engine exchange 200F—230F 900 1992

Dear Members
I have a Volvo 940/1992 with the B200F engine with catalytic converter.
I am planning to fit an engine B230 F from an 1988 740 model. Originally this engine supposed to have 116 Hp with Catalytic converter. I would like to have the 130hp which this engine seems to produce in the 940'.
My questions are the following:
Is there a difference in the motronic computer data between the 740 230F Engine and the 940--230f engine which explains the increased power?
(Also-- do i have to change the computerunit as well, or how does it work out if I leave the original unit in the car and just change the engine?)
What other components are responsible for the power-increase?
How much of a difference would it make to take out the catalytic converter altogether, as there is no requirement for it in this country for the year? (and replace it with the bit from the B230K engine?)
I know-- this is a bit of a difficult question, but maybe someone has some experience with it.

I have the same dilemma, I have a B230K engine ready and waiting to be fitted, but I don't know whether i can just swap the Injection system over, or if their has to be any changes.

As for the catalytic converter, I removed mine last year. Just hollowed out the box so its straight through and reconnected the O2 sensor. In the UK cars before 1992 have to have a CO2 rating of 3.5% after 1992 if a cat is or was fitted the rating MUST be 0.5%.

Luckily my 940 B200F is a 1991 model, and passed its MOT last week without any problems. Have a little increase in power without the cat, but my engine is old and tired, and needs changing. I am proposing to change the engines over soon, i'll post the results.

yes-- very much the same problem--. I also have a 1990 Volvo with a broken B230K engine besides the 1988 with the B230F and the 1992 estate with the B200f which I am using. So i can easily compare.
the manifolds fit inlet and exhaust side. the hydraulic pump and the generator have to be changed with the brackets. as said earlier, the original fuelpump on the b230K engine has to be removed. Over and all it should make some difference.
Another thing to consider is, that the backaxle ratio is different between the two cars. The b230K engine used to do 2400rpm at the speed of 60 miles, whereas the B200 does 2700 rpm. leaving it the original ratio can be an advatage, as the pullingpower is greater, but on the other side the petrol consumption could be higher. from the dirrect comparison, the B230K was much livelier even it had only 116Hp. We took the cat of the B230F engine and this made another 10 % difference. So-- anyway, stay in touch. i won't go near it for a while, as the B200F engine is still in good neck.

UPDATE
I have the 2.3L engine out of the 740 and luckily enough it is already the B230F engine. It has all the sensors of the B200F. The B230K does not have them.
I have to change the flywheel, as the RPM sensor has moved to the bellhousing in the 940 with the LH 2.4 jetronic away from the distributor.
