Help needed in M41 hell. 120-130

Well after waiting a month for washers I have been told they are no longer available. What I need are the washers that go on each side of
the needle bearings in the layshaft of a J type M41. (not the funky looking brass thrust washers)
Without them I have a really pricy lawn ornament.

Does anyone have a parts M41 available? OD Guru?

Please help.

Thanks,
-Erik

Erik:

If you haven't yet located the needed washers, try Joe Lazenby at Susquehanna Spares. He should have what you need as he rebuilds both transmissions and overdrive units.

Joe almost never answers the phone and is technophobic but has always responded to messages left on his answering machine: 717-921-2644.

I believe I got some coming in the mail from Wayne in Colorado. But it is always good to have one more source.

Erik,

I don't have any -- sorry -- but I do want to point out that there are two different sizes. You need the later, larger diameter ones. If someone offers you washers for an earlier M41 with D-type, they won't work.

What happened to your old washers, just out of curiosity? I've replaced needle bearings as a matter of course, but never saw any perceptible wear on the washers.

Help needed in M41 hell.-I might have them 120-130

Erik-

A couple of months ago, I took two J-ODs apart and made one good one. Let me look tonight and I'll get back to you.

I'm sorry, I thought you needed parts from the OD, but you need parts for the tranny. 120-130

I have an old OD that I'm happy to give parts out.

I suggest calling Wayne Darling (970) 245-6579. He has a Volvo salvage yard in Grand Junction CO, he has been working on and taking apart (one bolt at a time) Volvos since the 60's, and never throws anything away. He should have anything for a M40/M41 tranny you should want.

Paul

And he's a mechanical engineer to boot.

In response to Phils question... I need the later larger diameter ones. And as for what happened...sigh...just as I was proudly reassembling the washer slipped and took a thump from the shaft. So it cracked.
Some lessons are painful to learn.
