After several weeks work, my '90 240DL wagon (which has earned the name "Lola"
from the fact that it was my project car for those weeks, while my 1800 was my
daily driver, proving "It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world") is
insured, registered and inspected. It still needs an alignment (not from
Sears!) and perhaps some rear shocks. I'm thinking maybe KYB, since I don't
want to spend Bilstein money, but want better than Gabriel quality. But the
cruise control is fixed (thanx, everyone, for the assistance). The clutch
switch was out of alignment, and a quick nudge of the mounting plate with a
pair of vice grips did the trick (wonder how that happened?). The tach is in
and working, and looks okay, even with the older finish, as I replaced the fuel
and coolant temp guages as well.
The shift light quit on me, and I'm still trying to decide if I want to try to
fix it. Might just be the bulb, might be something else. If it's something
else, where might that something be? I dunno: I wanna shift when I wanna
shift, but I know obeying its commands will get me better gas mileage.
Also, my new exhaust rattles. It's happening in that narrow passage between
the gas tank and the inner wheelwell. Any suggestions on getting some peace
and quiet? I've tried to adjust it, as has a mechanic, and it just changes the
rattle.
Thanx for all the help, folks.
