ABS, no error code set but light is still on? 900

Hi all,

I'm new here and have a question regarding the ABS.

We just picked up a 91 940se in fairly descent shape knowing we had an issue with the ABS system. Thanks to the FAQ here on BrickBoard I was able to retrieve the ABS disgnostic code. The code was 2-3-2, Right front wheel sensor: signal missing. So I took apart the right front wheel, cleaned the sensor, and cleaned-up the tone ring. The sensor tested out good (according to the FAQ specs) so I put it all back together and reset the diagnostic code and went for a spin. The light is still on but now I get a diagnostic code of 1-1-1, No error code set. The ABS seems to work correctly but like I said the light is still on.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

- Jeff

Hey Jeff, I'm not sure what you did to "reset the diagnostic code", but you should follow the procedure in the FAQ for clearing the ABS fault indicator lamp. If you truly have no fault, this is all you should need to do.

Hi Chris,

I used the method described in the FAQ on ABS Brakes as follows:

"To clear codes, place the DLC probe into position 3. Hold DLC button down for >5secs. Release for 3 secs, then press again for >5 secs. This will clear the codes."

Like I said, there have been no further faults but the light refuses to stay off. BTW, I removed and cleaned the bulb contacts. You need to be a contortionist to get in there.

You may just need to get that code read and cleared with the factory service diagnostic tool- that plugs into the diagnostic port. Sometimes the codes won't reset any other way.
Best of luck with it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear there- that means a trip to a dealer or a well-equipped Volvo service shop. That doesn't mean you have to buy one! (They're like $5000 for a handheld computer that can read allthe codes.)
