Fuel Sending Unit Question - '89 245 200 1989

I needed to replace the in-tank transfer fuel pump, as it was no longer functioning.
The top of the sending unit was covered in rust/corrosion ,so I used a brass brush to clean most of the rust off. As I was removing each rubber hose from the top of the sender unit the metal fuel hose/piping that is attached to the top of the sender unit itself snaped off. The place where it's snaped off is flush with the top of the sender unit.

My questions are:
Is it easliy repairable?
Do I need a new fuel sending unit?
And if I do, I assume I attach the new pump and filter to this and pop it back in.

I've been hunting around and found one online for $80 from http://www.volksparts.com/V240.htm

Thanks
Andy

Thanks for the great advice.
I just called FCP Groton and can go pick up the sender unit and lock ring this afternoon!

I wouldn't try to fix it (although I have, when wires broke off flush with the top). And decent used ones are scarce, in my experience.

The $80 sender you found sounds about right (brand unknown?) FCP Groton lists a VDO (OEM Brand) for $85.

When replacing the sender, I don't try to get the (hard plastic) return line back on the barbed fitting. (Or get it off for that matter). I cut it off flush with the end of the barb.

Then trim away about 1" of the outer protective rubber, and attach a 2" or 3" length of Fuel Injection hose between the barb and plastic line, using good FI clamps. There is very little pressure there, and I've had no problems with the several I've done.

I've heard of this happening to lots of people. Sorry I can't remember what the best fix is, probably a good replacement from a junkyard if that's possible in your area. The archives might have some good info for you. Someone more knowledgeable than I will probably answer your post with some good ideas.
