940 Sedan Trunk lid won't unlock 900

My 1993 Sedan's trunk lid will no longer unlock. It is in the "always locked" (horizontal) key position. Unlocking the driver's door does not effect anything.
Does anyone know what this might be and how I might attempt to fix it myself?
A very strange, sudden, problem with an otherwise great car.

Sounds like the way my 240s work, too.

Also sounds like you need an Owner's Manual. Call 1-800-25-VOLVO and order one. See if you can get a Wiring Diagram manula for your car, too. Invaluable if you intend to do any of you own work and/or troubleshooting.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

not familiar with the the 940's, drive a 240 myself, .... but ...

On the 240, the keyhole is usually vertical. When you insert and turn clockwise (12:00 to 3:00), the lock is in power mode and can be unlocked by the the driver master lock (when you take the key out the insert is vertical again). However, when you turn the key counter clockwise (12:00 to 9:00) the lock is put into permanent lock mode and can not be opened without the key (taking the key out leaves it in horizontal position).

Don't know if this will help, but good luck. Maybe someone else can speak to the specifics of the 940.

700 and 900 series trunk locks behave exactly like vjoshii described.
