Pilot Bearing 140-160

G'day All

I've almost finished reassembling my new 8bolt engine detined for my 144 but I've realised that I didn't check that the crank came from a manual as I was using an existing 8bolt flywheel. It appears that it was an auto crank. Can I retrofit a pilot bearing to the crank?

Thanks

Probably.
Look in the end of the crank. (Note that some automatics have a flange
stuck on the end of the crank that looks like the end of the crank and
has sort of a rough approx 3/4" hole in the center. This flange pulls off.)
It should have the right size bore and a snap ring groove. Be sure and get
the bearing, washer and SNAP RING. Also be sure the snap ring is properly
seated.

(I inadvertently pulled the pilot brg out of Li'l Red on a multiple assembly
and destroyed the front tranny bearing carrier. Pretty traumatic when it
finally came apart! Took about 4 months.)

You will eed a pilot bearing puller to get that flange off. Trust me, go down to Shucks and rent one for $5. It'll save to time, money, and teeth in my case. Otherwise yeah it works just fine as long as the pilot bearing fits into the hole in the flywheel. Have fun.

Thanks,

I'll pick up a bearing puller today and I'll get back to you.

Thanks for the info.
