Hi all,

In the mornings my 88 740 gle wagon starts up nice and when i shift the shifter lever from park engine rpm drops down and it dies, then takes a couple of tries to start again. But on the other when I start the car and let it idle till the engine gets warmed up and then shift it from park it do not die.

I really appreciate your help.

I have the same problem with my 1987 GLE with 206K as well so I would be interested in what you find out. I just bought mine 3 months ago so I was not sure if this was normal. I have also noticed that the idle is not very constant either. It is the normal 750 but seems fluctuate 50-100 +/- like it has a miss.

This is a common problem. Clean out the idle motor. It's gunked up and the valve is slow to adjust to the change in vaccuum.
