power steering RACK leaking 700

Hello all hoping to find out if I will be doing the car any major damage by driving with the power steering pump removed . Reason the rack is leaking really bad, and budget aty the moment will not allow for replacemnt.
Please let me know what your thoughts are.
Tank you very much all

Your rack will leak either way wont it. Just the rack moving back and forth while you steer will push the fluid out I think. I really have no idea, just a guess. Id actually like to know also because my rack is leaking badly from the passenger side. www.Napaonline.com has rebuild kits for volvo racks, it includes orings and clamps and stuff. I was gonna try that but if I can just remove a belt and sacrifice my power steering id rather do that.

Unfortunately, Volvos were made for power steering. Its not the same as not having power steering like in the good old days. A Volvo with the p/s belt removed or broken is a BEAR to drive, and I believe can be even damaging to what steering rack you have left by exerting a lot of pressure on the seals. The Volvo steering system is a hydrolic system period. It is not built to operate mechanically.

Just remove your belt. All you will lack will be power steering.

Assuming, of course, that one of the other belts will drive the water pump!!! If not, rearrange them with another, longer belt to drive the pump from the alternator.
