HELP! Please... LH System Woes on B230FT 700

Okay - the Brick has been running MEGA-rich - So yesterday, I put on new Lambda (O-2 Sensor)and Cat Converter -

This DID NOT solve the problem... NOW, when I floor it - the bloody thing just coughs, dies down and generally BOGGGS at 4000 RPM!

Where do I go from here, folks?

The Air Mass Meter is suspect - some idiot had been monkeying with it prior to my getting the car (no cap on adjustment screw)... I need the settings and PROPER multi-meter readings as Haynes manual doesn't contain these, for some reason.

Also multi-meter readings for temp sensor - as my project for today was to tear off the Intake.... AAAAARGH!

All suggestions and how-to's received gratefully!

J

Have you browsed the 700/900/ FAQ? (Features Pull-Down menu) There is a lot of stuff there on the problems you are describing, ETC testing procedures & resistance values, etc.

You no doubt checked the very first suspect item on your FI system --- the fuel pressure regulator. It's a COMMON source of toooooo much fuel...

Hi, Don. Thanks!

Yes, I did. The regulator on the vacuum side had nary a sniff of fuel, beforehand.

With the fuel rail removed, I have blown, sucked & generally convinced myself that the diaphagm is intact.

With the Intake Ass`y removed, I noted that the wiring harness was in TERRIBLE shape. To wit - the whole Throttle-switch cable ass`y has been reworked -to replace wires with decidedly absent insulation. The Temp GAUGE sensor is also being reworked - the rains have come - and I`m having a beer break, now. ;)

Check your turbo hoses carefully. When you floor it you are leaking more air out of the hose because it is now pressurized, hence the AMM in enrichening the mixture far out of the range that the oxygen sensor can handle. The more throttle the richer the mixture, the more the plugs foul, the worse it runs - if it runs.
