Sunrooh headliner sunroof and adhesive 700

Ain't doing the headliner a ball!

Two issues:

1)I find even the 1/8" foam backed material too thick for the sunroof. What I see Volvo did is they used foam backed material on the main board and unlined (thinner) material on the sunroof. Any ideas on how to make the 1/8" material work on the sunroof?

2) How do you remove the adhesive used to hold the headliner on the sunroof? I found the adhesive not strong enough to hold the new material (even after reactivation with solvent)and would prefer to remove it. I cannot find a solvent which works at all well. Any idea?

Thanks for replies

I folded my 1/8" foambacked material over the top of my sunroof and onto 3M doublestick tape. I couldn't remove the original Volvo doublestick tape so just went over it with new 3M brand that I bought at Wal-Mart for $5.00/roll. I didn't have any problems with the thickness aspect, but one upholstery shop said they peel back the foam from the edge to make it thin enough to get the plastic moulding strip over it. But, yes, replacing the headliner of my 700 wagon was the most difficult DIY'er job I have done so far.

Lots of info in the 700/900 FAQs. These recommend using coarse sandpaper to remove the old glue.
