front speakers 200

I want to replace the stock front 4'' speakers on my 87 240DL with some higher power ones, but want to keep the factory grill covers. Any idea if this is possible, and which speakers will fit exactly?

Any help would be great!!

Thank You

Just did this a couple of weeks ago. Bought a pair of Alpine SPS100A speakers and the Metra adapter kit (for using the stock grills) for under $100.00. There are no window clearance issues, the speakers sound great and I still have a stock look. Had to pick up a couple of deeper 240 speaker grills from the PnP, the stock flush grills on my '81 wouldn't work with the adapters.

If your speaker grills didn't work, which years' grills will work with these speakers? Will these speakers work with an '88 without having to swap out the stock grills?

I'm not sure of the years the grills were used. The grills that work with the Metra adapters are the common 240 speaker grills that are about 3/4 of an inch deep. They just snap on to the adapter, no need for the pins.

The old grills from my doors were thin, about 3/8 of an inch, as the speakers were actually mounted in the door, not on the door panel like most 240s.
