rear window, wagon 700 1989

Aargh! Got into my 745T yesterday to find the rear (tailgate) window was a spiderweb of cracks. Looks like some little @#$%$ threw a rock at it. Rang around some auto glass places and found i need to take a second mortgage - quotes vary from $340 and $380. I'm going to hit the scrap yards first and try to find a used window. My question is, have any of you clever blokes replaced a rear wagon window, and how hard is it?

Cheers

Pete

Hello Sorry to hear about your window. You could try to find a complete tailgate at the scrap yard with good window and fit it onto your car and a lot easier than trying to remove glass. To remove glass I would remove all interior trim on tailgate remove chrome trim from exterior glass and plastic side pieces remove as many of fixing clips as possible, disconect wiring to wiper and heater. Then with a helper push a wire through gap between glass and body and then working on either side with helper pull wire using pliers or molegrips around frame to release glass from the sealant. Prepare your car for installing window. Use suitable sealant (which I'm sure someone can advise) refit all window trim pieces using new or used window trim & clips. Connect wiper & heater wires then re install tailgate trim. Ive never done this but this is how I would go about it. Hope it's of help. Good luck James.

I have in my 88 745tic. It wasn't tooooo bad. Not something I'd recomend to anyone who hasn't replaced a windshield yet though. Especially if it has rear wiper. I heard of several breaking them.
It wasn't @ all fun, but it's do-able.
