Does anyone have a 93 on 940 with a trailer hitch? Can you send me picture of the hitch? Did you have to cut the bumper cover to fit the hitch?

I went through 3different hitches from the boneyard until I found one thatwas onlt about 1/4" shy of clearing the bottom trim ( not enough to need to cut, I just tightened it up and let it bend up a tad )
They all fit the 700/900 bolt pattern, but the ones for 95 and later are a couble of inches lower,and will clear all of the trim, but require an insert with about a 4"lift.

The ones for the earlier 700's are made for a shorter bumper skirt and wind up about 2" high into the skirt, and won't clear the muffler heat shield on a '93.

The later style 700/900 hitches will fit as mine does without hitting the heat shield.

Does anyone know if a 95-on 960 trailer hitch would fit a 940? It looks like the drop in the 960 trailer hitch would be sufficient to avoid the need for the cutting of the bumper. The part numbers (draw-tite) are different.

Luckily , I didn't get stuck with the hitches, the owner of the boneyard let me exchange them until I found one that fit right.

'95- 960 hitch bolted up fine nd cleared the bumper with room to spare, but as far as it hung down , it looked like it might drag a little on driveways if heavily loaded ( and the scuff marks from the previous installation verified that ), but it did bolt right up without any hassels.

I think that the one I wound up with is a U-haul ( Draw-tite?) for the later model. It has the bar mounted further bach on the passenger side flange and angled forward on the drivers side.

I went to a Draw-tite dealer and bought the model for the 95 960 it is model number 36199 and it fits perfect. Thanks for the suggestion. With my 92 non starting wagon coupled with this problem and trying to sell our 90 765TI I was going nuts (not to mention two kids and graduate school). I am not sure why IPD and Drawtite use the 36195 for the 95 940 when the 36199 fits so much better.
