spark plug and wire question 700 1987

once again i have a question for my 1987 740 turbo:

im looking into giving it a makeover, and i was looking at new high performance plugs and wires - nology wires (http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ORD-1-1-1-15539.cfm)and some high end platnum, iradium, titanium, or whatever they call them plugs. my volvo savy old friend said they dont fit well. is this true? will they work?? also the wires said for 88 740-93. does this make a
difference???

def check out the site though :)

thanx again,

jeff mcdonough

They really do like those plug wires a lot, must have goldplated boots on them. Don't waste your money on this overpriced "pretty stuff". Get a good set of OEM wires and with the money you save get a new cap and rotor. As for plugs good old NGK's or Bosch seem to be the choice of most.

These "upgrades" will definitely give you a lightweight racing wallet; it's doubtful they'll do anything for your car's performance.

Wow a lighter wallet for sure... getting spark from the distributor to the plug with as little loss as possible is not nearly that expensive... I scrounged a set of 8mm blue max solid core wires together for $0.00 between leftovers from a bike project and a couple from a friend. and they'll take all I give'em. I'd say build the rest of the motor first untill you just absolutly need to have a $150.00 set of wires to handle the spark....my guess is you'll be in at least a "top fuel" class...

The fancy spark plugs... I run these by my race car building buddy from time to time...the answer is always the same "Don't waste your money" I realize this is a small pond but he was track champ 3 or 4 years in a row... I trust his judgement...on spark plugs anyway.

Now if your looking at these for "cool" factor...then by all means... they are super pretty. but stick to a Bosh or NGK plug... nothing fancy.
One mans opinion... and you know what men are like...
