240 transmission issues 200

I've been having some issues with my transmission lately on my '87 240DL. Reading through the archives and doing a couple of checks I have determined that my kickdown cable is sticking. Being somewhat of a novice, can someone tell me how do i fix this. Does the cable need replacement? or can I just lubricate it somehow?

Sometimes you can buy a little time with lubrication. Remove the cable from the throttle spool and raise the end up. Make some provision that will hold it like that for awhile. I have used alternate applications of PBBlaster and 3in1 oil allowing time for gravity work. I pull the cable out as I apply each product, usually ending up with just several of the 3in1.

Replacing the cable involves removing the pan and sometimes if you don't get lucky you have to move the exhaust system as well.

It's not hard to lube your current cable. Just disconnect it and blast some wd-40 down there and work the cable in and out to get it loose. I've heard other's just replaced the cable, but I don't know how to do that or how hard it is.

Good luck,
Seth
