Power Steering Pump 200 1988

Air conditioning compressor sized up, which runs the power steering pump. I took one of the belts that run the alternator and ran it to the pump. The alternator only has one belt to it. I had to modifiy the timeing marks to get the belt past. Is this ok?

I had the same problem with my 86 recently. I got a good clutch from the boneyard and put it in. It works fine. Being that my compressor is siezed, I disconnected the wire to it so it can't accidentally engage. You will need a 10 mm socket wrench and a pair of snap ring pliers to do the swap. That gets you back to the redundancy of 2 belts for the alternator and water pump.

If it's and R-134 system then my directions may not be right and you would be better off to replace the compressor if it is truly siezed.

It's very likely that the bearing for the clutch seized, not the compressor. The clutch assembly and its bearing are easy to replace working only from the front of the engine.
