Better Headlights 700

Howdy,

I have the 'Euro' version of headlights (glass, not sealed beam 3 prong bulb) and foglights on my car and I am very disappointed with the output from the headlights. I am not sure if its rusty grounds or what but the low beams are not very bright at all...high beams are OK but I would really like to get something better for driving.

Is there an upgrade kit or a really good bulb or any other solution to get great light?

Russ

I would recommend trying Sylvania Silverstars I installed the low beam seal beams last summer and it made a huge differance. They were hard to find in Canada at first,I had mine special ordered. Now I have installed them in the Hi beam as well.100% street legal lights.I am going to buy the Silverstar lights for my mini van now.For the seal beams they are $32 can.

The very first thing you should do is install headlight relays. I run a #8 wire straight from the alternator output to a Buss brand fuse block mounted on the power steering reservoir bracket. The relays are mounted both on the inside of the left front fender and in front of the air cleaner on my turbo car.
I use four relays total for the headlights, and one for the fog lights.

Go to this site for more information.

I have seen as much as 2.5 volts lost in the stock headlight wiring system on one car. Make sure your grounds are good, too.

If you want to check the voltage loss, use a digital voltmeter to test between the alternator output and the headlights in both high and low beam. Since power=Vē/R, a little change in the voltage to the headlights makes a big difference in light output.

If that fails, there are higher wattage lamps available, go to Dan Stern's web site for one place to buy them.

Wow John, great install I need to do this and also wire up a set of driving lights to come on with the high beams as well. This should really help the orig. poster. Use your wiring setup in an 8 light set up with H4/H1 and aux fogs & driving lights. Overwatt the main H4 & H1 and the only thing brighter would be the sun!! Not much would compare to that setup.
