ABS and brake pads 700

Hi all

My 89 740 turbo has ABS I have had a problem with squealing brakes and a grinding at walk speed to a stop only sometimes. I think the problem is cheap hard brake pads. The question is ABS car owners what pads do you run

The sliding caliper setup needs lots of upkeep to keep it good, checking the sliding pins is a good place to start, make sure the dust seals are good and the calipers slide easy and smooth.

As for brake pads, because this is very much an American board, some people will be mentioning PBR and Axxis pads, neither of these are sold in Australia, but they are both made by Bendix in Australia, and all the diffrent pad compounds they come in are made here in under the Bendix brand name.

Determine if front or rear. Had to replace rear rotors and pads on 850 to fix the problem on my 850. Have always used Volvo pads. They go away quick but they are smooth and predictable.

I use Repco Axxis pads. I also use Volvo OEM pads, which have a little more dust but stop very well. When you replace them, use some anti-squeel shims (Lucas makes a nice set) or anti-squeel paste on the pad backs. Lubricate the caliper slide pins too.
