steel wheel interchangability 700 1991

My brother-in-law has a set of spare steelies for his '95 850 wagon.
My father-in-law wanted to use them on his 740 '91. I told him RWD and FWD steelies would have a different offset.

I went to the local 'walmart' yesterday and i nthe steelie section they have the same 15x6.5 ; 5x108 steelies listed for all 700/900 volvos as well as all S70/C70/S90, and some ford cougars, tourus, and windstars.

Is it true about the RWD vs. FWD offsets being different?

Thanks,

Offsets for the FWD vs. RWD are different. I think the offsets are out close to 15mm (25mm;rwd vs. 40mm;fwd but don't quote me).

That being the case, it is up to your brother-in-law to decide if it works for his car. I think like you and would avoid the FWD rims for my RWD cars (had an opp. to buy 4 850 steel wheels for $10CDN and didn't b/c I drive RWD)

As for Walmart, I think they feel that as long as the bolts on the car fit the holes on the rim then it is ok. It is kinda like the cave man using a rock/club to bash fit a cube into a round hole.

I rant...

Tim.
