Timing Belts 700 1990

'90 16 Valve- both timing belts broke @ low rpm's no immediate noise just dead
question: any chance not trash? pulled valve cover and everything topside looks same. help!!

Get yourself on the search for a good 16 valve head, or get your rebuilt (what 500 bucks?).

No, at least a couple of bent valves for sure.

Nice engine (got one) but NEEDS TO BE METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED from timing perspective.

Read FAQ, and note the weaknesses:
1.. oil pump pulley bolt
2.. balance shaft pulley plastic vs. metal
3.. poor quality belts or poor tension
4.. old tensioner

if you plan on keeping the car, keep up the timing for heaven's sake!

There is virtually no chance that you got away without any internal engine damage. You could try to run the engine with new belts, but I suspect that it has damaged several of the 16 valves, to some extent.

Just bought a car with 16 valve engine and broken timing belt. 6 valves bent. Luckily I found a head at the Pick A Part for $45.00. Will eventually rework the bad one for a spare.
