EGR valve question 700 1990

I have a B230ft in my 780. It has failed California emissions test for high NOx. My question is does this car have an EGR valve? If not is there some similar device that accomplishes this function on a California car? I can’t find it, and am wondering if turbos don’t have it for some reason. The FAQ points to the EGR as a major culprit for high NOx. If I don’t have an EGR what else should I look at?

Thanks

Retard your ignition timing 3 degrees from spec. If you failed at idle, raise idle speed to about 950RPM.

Before you go in for a test, driver for half an hour so the engine is good and hot, leave it running while you wait.
Be sure to go to a pass or no pay station, the don't stand to make money by failing you.

If you still fail, post the measured emissions readings for high and low speed tests.

It is interesting to know that a brand new (read $50 generic) Catalytic convertor will make most any car pass for the first half hour of its life.

Look for vacuum leaks in the intake system. If your car has EGR, you will see an intake pipe in the exhaust manifold, usually at the back right in front of the firewall. The EGR itself is under the intake manifold.

Thanks Steve,
I apparently do not have an EGR as there is no pipe coming out of the back of exhaust manifold (flat solid spot where it should be). Is there another way this function could be accomplished? I have looked for leaks and found the hose from AMM to turbo was a little flaky & have not retested since I replaced it yet.
