Stereo Help!! 200 1986

Hey All,

Does anyone have a color code or wiring diagram for the stero head unit? I have a 16 position connector, and don't know if it's "stock" going into a worthless cassette player. I need to know the FR, FL, RR, and RL minimum, but if you have info on the power leads, ACC, and antenna, it would be VERY helpful. Well, actually, the antenna lead is probably not information that I need.

In the '86 244 DL, would there be existing wiring for rear speakers? Mine doesn't have rear speakers, and I haven't found the wires. I GOTTA git this done today... so any help would be appreciated!!!

OK, here's the problem: Some of the 86's have the fader (F/R) control mounted on the control panel, next to the A/C switch, lighter, etc. The problem with this fader is that it is a 'common-ground' type, meaning one ground wire for both L and R output. While this will work for a low-power common ground amplifier, most modern equipment (your typical 15wX4 CD Receiver) will require isolated grounds for each speaker, front and rear.

Look behind the control panel for a pair of black wires, + marked with yellow stripes. These would be the back speaker wires, if they exist.

HI -

I have a 1986 244GL with an aftermarket Pioneer in it, installed by the PO.

The factory wiring is a 9-position connector, and no rear speaker wiring. The factory head unit plugs into the 9-pin connector, has DIN connectors for an equalizer and a 2-XXwatt amp for the rear speakers. (XX = 15, 20 or more.)

The positons are numbered, you may need to just ID the wires by their color code. Here are the wires that go into the 9-position connector:

#1 GN....Fuse #8 for constant power.
#2 SB....Fuse #1 for switched power.(SB = black) Other SB is for trunk release.
#3 R.....Power antenna or amp power.
#4 Y-W...Loudspeaker, front left, positive.
#5 GR-Y..Loudspeaker, front right, positive.
#6 Vacant
#7 W.....Loudspeaker, front left, negative.
#8 GR....Loudspeaker, front right, negative
#9 SB....Ground connection

It is easy to run speaker wires to the trunk. The black plastic door thresholds come off with a hard pull at one end or the other. Then run the wires under the carpet and under the rear seat and into the trunk.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Bob,

I'm sorry. I really meant to thank you for your help. I was looking at the PO installed wiring harness. Once I stripped it back, I found exactly what you said. Thanks for saving me HOURS!!

Ken
