Brake Rotors for a 1989 240 DL wagon 200 1989

Any recommendations on after market brake rotors for a 240 wagon. Have owned this car since 1989 and am tired of replacing the rotors. Perhaps there is a rotor out there more durable than original equipment.

Thanks

You might consider Zimmerman. I used them on the rears of my 240 after one of the rear calipers seized. No problems so far plus they are cheap from FCP Groton - $25-30 if I remember correctly?

If you are replacing rotors due to warpage. The most common cause of warped rotors is the wheels being put on with an impact wrench by mechanics and tire changers.

Whenever I get tires or I know the mechanic has removed the wheels, I'll take along my torque wrench, drive the car down the block, stop and torque the wheels. I've given up fighting with them, save your breath.

If the wheels are not torqued properly and you heat the rotors up on a long drive they can warp in no time flat.

Hmm, the rotors on my 1989 245 are original (turned twice due to rust), and I have only replaced 240 rotors due to warping (not common). My dad and I both typically see 100,000 miles PLUS on a brake job though, with a max of 130,000 miles.

I'm with Cliff Pope. I have an '89 with 234000. Original Discs. If they're not warped, don't turn them. New pads about every 35-40K and the brake job takes about 30 minutes.

Is this a "do it yourself" or do you have a repair shop do it ?

When I first get a Volvo, I'll have rotors turned (machined) if not too thin, replace pads, etc. and not do anything till I need pads again ( yearly replacement).

Al, I didn't make it to the East coast meet in Vermont on account of the wife's 20th H.S. reunion.Maybe next year.
How much do you pay to have rotors turned? They are only $25 new online.
Keep rolling.

While I use just ordinary Volvo OE or AutoZone Cheapo pads, I have never replaced a front rotor on any of the 240 I've owned - since 1977.

What pads are you using? Do they drag on the calipers? Seems like something is causing rotor damage beyond normal.

Regards,

Bob

Replace your brake pads more often, and you won't have to worry about the rotors so much.

Mine are still originals at 286,000 miles. Pads last about 40,000 miles. I change them when they get down to about 1/8".
