Washer Connection (again) 444-544

After getting a used washer pump and bottle from another 63 544 and comparing my (single pull) wiper switch to the wiring diagram,(and I am no expert here) it looks like I don't have the right switch to run the washer pump. So, I go back to the guy with the parts car, he pulls the switch and tells me that it is a three position switch and has five connections and one is a double. This is where I can use some help.

1. The wiring diagram shows six wires on the switch, four from the wiper motor, one from the washer pump and one with a "P" label which I assume means power.
Question - Am I reading the wiring diagram wrong or does the washer connection share a connection to the switch somehow?

2. Why are there three positions to the parts car switch? If one is for the wipers and another for the washer pump, what is the third position for? Would this car have a two speed wiper motor that I also need to get?

Appreciate any help.
Dennis

Washer Connection (again) 444-544

Dennis;

I am refering to wiring diagrams:

http://www.intelab.com/swem/122S%20Wiring%20Diagram.jpg

I was under the impression that a four position switch [OFF, SLOW-WIPE, FAST-WIPE, WASH-while FAST-WIPING] is likely from a 122...but I have VERY limited experience with 544s. I understood they did not have dual-speed motors from the factory...someone can confirm this...

P (544), or W (122) are the connections to the washer motor, on their respective switches...I advise you determine what motor and switch you have, then wire per applicable diagram...making ANY assumptions when working on wiring, especially when making changes, is NOT ADVISABLE, and will likely lead to exercising your fuse!!

Cheers
