thermostat replacement 700

Hi all,

When replacing the thermostat on a 1990 740 intercooled turbo, should any sealent be used on the gaskets?

thanks in advance.

The thermostat on a Volvo engine uses a rubber sealing ring which fits around the rim of the thermostat. This seals like a charm and requires no sealant. I've never had one leak. When you buy the new thermostat, be sure to get the sealing ring. Sometimes they have to be bought separately from the thermostat. Be sure you install the thermostat with the little air passage hole in the up position to allow air to bleed out when filling the coolant.
