242 Door Panel soaked 200

Hey y'all.

I bought some junkyard 242 door panels (front right& left, + the rear two).. The problem is the back plywood/cardboard material is soaked and mildewed from sitting in the lot. Is there a better way to fix the problem than just blowdrying? Anything to support it's flimsy self?

thanks, Lee Q.

Let the panel dry completely and then give it a coat or two of fiberglass resin - no need to use the cloth, resin alone should do it...

Try using 1/16th or less thick aluminum sheeting glued to the back side with contact cement.
The aluminum is easily bent to correct shape and is soft enough to meld with the metal of the door so it won't "buzz".

Or you could get sone 1/4" MDF and peel off the cloth/vinyl and remake the pressboard backing. I did this one before aftermarket Mustang interiors were available and it isn't that hard to do.

Unfortunately, even when they completely dry out, they will be soft. Good ones can be found but they are rare.
