its a relay nice day 200

Its grey outside, wet and snowy...perfect time to inspect the relays in my 1990 240 dl and find the usual suspect( intermitent no start and stall).

Under the dashboard on the passenger side theres a white relay,it was hot.I opened it and looked carefully,it was full of dried brownish stuff around the connectors and i 've found a tiny crack in one solder, wich i fixed wich much love.i'm not quite sure what kind of relay it is , and the haynes manual seems vague about that one.Any idea?

Also the next step is the fuel pump relay, wheres that one located exactly?
thanks
Jacques

That's the dirty rotten sucker. Good catch. It's a two-fer, as Bruce said. One relay powers the FI system, the other relay powers the actual pumps. They're side-by-side on one PCB inside the white plastic box.

While your iron's hot, resolder your OD relay, flasher, defroster, delayed sweep wiper, courtesy light, seat belt, and any other of those annoying Bosch and Hella relays that you can find under and around the dash or center console.

Be aware that the wiper relay is tucked under a metal panel under the carpet, near the driver's left foot. If you have a wagon, then you'll also find a relay for the rear wiper.

That White relay is the Fuel Injection Relay. It is actually 2 relays in one case, one of which powers the Fuel Pumps among other things.

There is no single, stand-alone "Fuel (or Fuel Pump) Relay" for your LH system.. You can see the White one diagrammed in the older (Green Cover) Haynes Manual (page 316, lower right corner, item 217). But the "later" (Blue Cover) Haynes only diagrams up thru 1983, which is too early for that relay. It started on the '85s.

You seem to have already found the fuel pump relay. Located just above the floor mat, right?
