740 turbo with 216,000 miles that will not run.....

Hello all,

I am going to look at a 1987 740 Turbo wagon Volvo tomorrow that has 216,000 miles on it. It is a family car and the lady I talked to said it won't run because of a fuel problem in the engine compartment. She stated that "fuel keeps shooting into the engine through the injectors so it won't run." hmmm..... So anyways, she wants $500 or best offer and it has new tires, new exhaust system, a new battery and has been maintained very well.
So how much should I offer her for this car?

Thanks a bunch

Adrian

If purchased, this is going to be my first turbo Volvo!! Woohoo!

Several possibilities.....

1) Bad AMM
2) Bad fuel pressure regulator
3) Bad FI temp sensor (or connections to it)
4) Bad FI ecu (unlikely)

'87 was, I think, the first year for the water cooled turbo... so the turbo may still be in good shape. '87 was also the first year for the hydraulic motor mounts.... so they might be shot.

Ask for all service records.

$500 for the car is fair. Offer $350.

When she's not looking, unplug the AMM (key off) and see if it starts.

If you buy the car, keep in mind that the oil is probably LOADED with gas -- so change it before you run the engine.
